Photographs I've gleaned from flea markets, junk shops and sometimes ebay. The cheaper the better. Anything with a story that can be extracted from hand written notes, location research, local histories, census records......anything. A small band of fellow enthusiasts worldwide have helped me with many of these. Of course there are always mysteries that defy research, but there's even a story inside these. All images can be viewed at super-size on Flickr.

British Empire Pavillion. International Colonial Exposition. Antwerp. 1930.

British Empire pavillion. Colonial Exhibition, Antwerp, Belgium, 1930.

To give it its full name, this was the 'exposition internationale coloniale, maritime et d'art flamand' in Antwerp, Belgium in 1930. The colonial exhibitions were a now-extinct offshoot of the world fairs. This 'British section' was estimated to have received 7 million visitors. It was demolished after the event.

A Flickr user has posted this set of amateur stereographs taken at the exhibition.
