Photographs I've gleaned from flea markets, junk shops and sometimes ebay. The cheaper the better. Anything with a story that can be extracted from hand written notes, location research, local histories, census records......anything. A small band of fellow enthusiasts worldwide have helped me with many of these. Of course there are always mysteries that defy research, but there's even a story inside these. All images can be viewed at super-size on Flickr.

USA, 1909.

Topeka, Kansas. 1909. State capitol & Crosby Bros. Co.
Topeka, Kansas. View looking south west. First Baptist church on the left, state capitol on the right.

A group of five photos apparently taken in 1909 by a British person travelling through the USA. New York, Kansas and Colorado feature. Notes on the reverse seem mainly concerned with the size and cost of buildings featured in the photos, with some sarcastic remarks about graft.

Denver, Colorado. 1909. 'Hotel Law'
Stout Street, Denver, Colorado.

Ute Iron Spring, Manitou Springs, Colorado. 1909.
Ute Iron Spring, Manitou Springs, Colorado. See a recent photo here, taken from almost the same spot.

State Capitol, St Paul, Minnesota. October 1909.
State Capitol, St Paul, Minnesota. "State capitol of St Paul, Minnesota. Marble. Cost £900,000 & said to have built without graft. M'yes"

New York. 1909.
Manhattan, New York.
