An interesting view of an old couple living an essentially medieval life. The location is unidentified. I have found photos of very similar structures in the Western Isles of Scotland, but this is somewhere with more trees. Probably 1930s.
Photographs I've gleaned from flea markets, junk shops and sometimes ebay. The cheaper the better. Anything with a story that can be extracted from hand written notes, location research, local histories, census records......anything. A small band of fellow enthusiasts worldwide have helped me with many of these. Of course there are always mysteries that defy research, but there's even a story inside these. All images can be viewed at super-size on Flickr.

Mystery marktplatz. Third Reich.
Totally flummoxed by this one. A busy marketplace in a large town or city with 19th century buildings. German shop names and swastika banners. Any ideas?
I found it in the same collection as this one of Rothenburg, along with photos of Berlin and Potsdam, but this town does not appear to be any of those places.

Ghost Houses. 1890s.
These are favourites of mine, though I've never been able to identify the locations. The first is an idyllic domestic scene. A child and her toys take centre stage, a woman (sewing?) on a bench with two older girls, and another woman looking from a window curiously. Maybe father was the photographer. The second appears to be an elderly woman, screened from the sun by an umbrella, tended to by a maid. Maybe an old, well-to-do widow. See enlarged details below....
