Photographs I've gleaned from flea markets, junk shops and sometimes ebay. The cheaper the better. Anything with a story that can be extracted from hand written notes, location research, local histories, census records......anything. A small band of fellow enthusiasts worldwide have helped me with many of these. Of course there are always mysteries that defy research, but there's even a story inside these. All images can be viewed at super-size on Flickr.

Royal Six Bells pub, Wimbledon, London. 1940s

Fitting electric street lighting. Royal Six Bells pub, Wimbledon, London.

Part of a series that appear to have been publicity shots for the London Electricity Board. They must have either been upgrading street lighting or replacing gas lamps with electric ones. That's a Commer truck. Part of the pub sign "Ro...B..." is visible and this was enough to allow a helpful Flickr user to pin it down for me. It still exists though now disused, boarded up and looking a bit sad. See a recent photo of it here.
